Mobilistrictor
Understanding the Suit
The mobilistrictor: Third Age suit is worn by the designer/trainer etc. to gain an appreciation of the loss of mobility and sensory accuity. The suit brings an immediate appreciation at a very personal level the issues, both physical and psychological relating to reduced mobility and sensory accuity. This may be due to disability, illness, trauma or the natural ageing process.
The appreciation applies to both the wearer and onlookers engaged in the practical demonstrations. this method is so much more participative and 'hands on' than the usual 'power-point' presentations.
Our service involves an experienced demonstrator who will dress up to three individuals in the Mobilistrictor suit. They will be observed prior to putting on the suit, undertaking a series of simple activities and then repeat those activities for comparison of how they are affected. They also undertake further activities and descirbe the effects it is having on them. Both the subject and the observers ( in groups of up to twelve) can immediately see the effects on some-one they probably already know.
Onlookers can also participate, as there are elements, such as the headphones, splints and special spectacles, that can be experienced by individuals during the demonstration.
The Mobilistrictor is a tool to promote thinking, reflection and discussion (which it invariably does!), and it allows people to challenge preconceptions (very often their own!) about their 'understanding' of 'ageing and disability'.
The hire of the suit with demonstrator is £400 per session. 'Contact us' for further information.
The Mobilistrictor bodysuit: Third age suit, is not designed to provide specific solutions or answers to problems. The use of the suit permits the interrogation of designs or training methods by stimulating the thought process. The suit is not an ergonomically designed or endorsed tool and its use can only give an appreciation of conditions encountered in other people, without attempting to replicate them. It provides a simulation only of loss of mobility and the spectacles reduce visual acuity and headphones reduce hearing, to give a general impression.
It is not possible to replicate the full range of characteristics associated with the potential loss of mobility, vision and hearing in humans in many different circumstances. The suit and its accessories do not replicate any specific age, clinical condition and does not accurately represent the human body. The following exclusions are examples and do not constitute a full list:-
| |
Does not simulate or replicate the effects of pain |
| |
No hearing or balance difficulties are considered |
| |
No breathing difficulties or breathlessness are considered |
| |
Different body shapes, weights, strengths and sizes are not considered |
| |
The timescale relating to ageing or loss of mobility, vision or hearing
or recovery is not considered |
| |
Mental aspects such as frustration, helplessness, loss of independence,
self-esteem etc. can only be imagined by the user of the suit. |
The use of the suit must be in conjunction with all legislation and regulations and guidelines and the advice from relevant advisory groups and bodies and is additional to these sources and does not replace them.
